Talking GOOD with Christina Johnson

Christina Betancourt Johnson is someone who finds fulfillment by serving others. For more than ten years, she has worked in the nonprofit sector, building brands and communication platforms for some of the Nation’s most well respected NGOs. She’s currently a Senior Manager of Marketing and Communications at Global Impact, a DC-based organization that boasts the URL: www.charity.org (they must have purchased that shortly after Al Gore invented the Internet). Global Impact, among its many other initiatives, manages some of the world’s largest workplace giving campaigns, such as the Combined Federal Campaign-Overseas (CFC-O), for all overseas commands of the U.S. Department of Defense.

Thanks for playing "Talking GOOD" Christina!

1. IN JUST ONE SENTENCE, WHAT IS YOUR PURPOSE IN LIFE? My purpose in life is to live a life of grace and service, protecting and providing for those who can’t do it themselves.

2. WHAT IS SOMETHING YOU WANT TO ACCOMPLISH BEFORE YOU “EXPIRE?” I’d like to accomplish a sense of peace, knowing that my daughter was raised in the best possible way, so that she is a gift to all she comes in contact with.

3. IF YOU COULD MEET WITH ANYONE (ALIVE), WHO WOULD IT BE AND WHAT WOULD YOU ASK THEM? If I could meet with anyone,  I’d like to meet Joanne Rowling (J.K. Rowling), the British novelist and author of the “Harry Potter” series. Her books are fantastic and I think that she is a powerful testament to what faith and hope can do for a person. While I’m not quite sure what I’d ask her, I once heard her say that her failed marriage and inability to secure work was liberating; I guess that I would want her to expound on that a bit. I think that it’s always enlightening, and sometimes inspiring, to hear about an accomplished woman’s journey. She seems to be a very authentic person too, so my presumption is that the conversation would bring both jewels of wisdom and wonderful surprises. She’s just pretty awesome!

4. WHAT WOULD THE TITLE OF YOUR BOOK BE?  I would write an autobiography (shaking my head slowly and smiling as I type) and call it “A ‘Not-So-Simple’ Simple Plan.”

5. WHO WOULD PLAY YOU, IN A MOVIE ABOUT YOUR LIFE? I’d like Emma Stone to play me, although I’m not sure that we look much alike. I think I just love her personality and acting abilities. Zoe Saldana might be another good one. She’s played really complex roles and accurately portrayed each trait that the character embodied with such deft skill. Actually, she may be a better fit although I love Emma.

6. WHAT IS A BELIEF THAT IS CORE TO YOUR BEING? That God loves us all and that God is the center of my being.

7. WHO ARE YOUR HEROES? My mom and the many women, like her, that display courage in the face of danger and adversity. She is never self-serving and consistently seeks to find solutions that serve the greater good. Day after day, she nurtures our family, provides for those in need, brings joy to those she comes in contact with and remains positive and brave despite some of life’s toughest challenges. Yup, women like that are phenomenal and in my mind, they’re heroes.

8. IF YOU WEREN’T DOING THIS, WHAT WOULD YOU BE DOING? If I weren’t working for a fundraising organization right now that supported thousands of nonprofits and their beneficiaries worldwide, I think I’d be working for some sort of advocacy or fundraising nonprofit that works locally. I’ve always cared deeply about the issues affecting the DC metropolitan region and the people in my community, so working to make a positive change right here in my back yard would be a probable alternative.

9. TELL US SOMETHING SURPRISING ABOUT YOURSELF. So, I always wanted to be a professional racecar driver and love NASCAR. And to date, I still haven’t been to a professional race although it’s on the top of my bucket list, right behind going to a track and driving a car myself! Surprising enough?

10. WHAT QUESTION DO YOU WISH I HAD ASKED? Q: If you had three more hours in a day, how would you spend them and why? A: I’d spend one hour reading (which is a hobby that I had in a previous life, before my beautiful and very active 3-year-old daughter made her grand entrance). I’d devote one hour of time to my dad who lives with me. He’s getting older and isn’t in the best of health, so listening to his thoughts and just creating lasting moments with him would be something that I’d definitely do. Lastly, I suppose that I’d spend one hour just allowing my mind to wander without a script. Some of the most beautiful thoughts come when you’re not thinking at all.
